In 1978 two brothers with an innovative vision set out to build a bakery store in the small town of Arecibo.  It is during this year that they establish their first store specializing in bread, bakery products, sandwiches and hors d’oeuvres.  The brothers were Manuel and Guillermo Cidre who started a family business based on service and high quality products.

Their famous “quesitos” (premium cheese pastry) and “Pan Sobao” (Sweet Bread) became people’s favorites.  From all over the island, people would arrive to Arecibo seeking these delicious products.  Due to their commitment to service and quality, Los Cidrines not only quickly obtained the support of the town of Arecibo but also the rest of the island.

On August 1982, they founded their second store in San Juan becoming the only bakery and pastry shop on the island that had begun to expand toward the capital of Puerto Rico.  By 1985, Los Cidrines becomes the first and only bakery and pastry chain in Puerto Rico under the same name.

With the intention of maintaining product uniformity in their stores, Los Cidrines establishes a manufacturing operation in the Industrial Zone Zeno Gandía in Arecibo. In their commencement they counted with 4,000 square feet to produce the breads and bakery products sold at their shops.  In 1990, the bakery and pastry production is centralized, expanding their facilities to 20,000 square feet and investing in machinery and equipment.

Los Cidrines was the first company outside of US territory to possess an immediate freezing spiral system called blast freezer.  In addition, they had the most advanced laminator for the production of puff pastry and sweet dough products which had with integrated cooling and termination line. As result of these investments, additional capacity is acquired which allows the development of the concept “HAVING A BAKERY IS AS EASY AS CALLING (1-800-DAME-PAN)”.  From the very beginning, this novel concept was favorably received by grocery stores and supermarkets and later by big chains instore bakeries, discount warehouses, independent bakeries, and fast food businesses.  This allowed them to offer a well-known brand name saving on labor, ingredients, waste and specialized personnel.

With the intention of increasing their production and sales capacity on the local market and the exportation of puff pastries, Los Cidrines acquires in the year 2000 a lamination and termination system with an integrated cooling system from the Rademaker Company.  This investment ranks Los Cidrines as a worldwide vanguard company regarding the production of puff pastry and sweet dough products.

Today, Los Cidrines exports products to Florida and to the East coast of the United States, in addition to, the British and US Virgin Islands.

In 2009, Los Cidrines celebrates 30 years in the production of top quality breads and bakery products. They also possess the most technologically advanced manufacturing operation in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.  Los Cidrines is the leading bread and pastry brand in all Puerto Rico.  It is recognized for its commitment, innovation and excellence.

Los Cidrines contributes to the creation of employment on the Island and is committed to making Puerto Rico a better country by fomenting a better quality of life.
